YMCA Summer Skate Camp Recap: Two Weeks of Growth On and Off the Board

The last two weeks have been a blast!

We had the privilege of partnering with the Maui YMCA for two weeks of Summer Skate Camp, welcoming two full groups of young skaters who came ready to learn, have fun, and challenge themselves.

Throughout camp, skaters worked through each of the One Love Skate Four Wheels: Drop-Ins, Manuals, Ollies, and Powerslides. These are the same four skills represented by our One Love Skate "roach" characters. Each one represents one of the foundational skills we teach, making it easy for skaters to remember what they’re working towards. Every new skill took practice, patience, and perseverance, and it was exciting to watch campers continue progressing throughout the week.

At One Love Skate, learning tricks is only part of the journey. We hope every camper leaves with more than just new skateboarding skills. Camp is about building confidence, encouraging one another, and creating a place where kids can grow both on and off the board.

Each day also connected skateboarding with a different value: Faith, Vision, 'Ohana, and Gratitude. Those themes helped remind campers that growing as a person is just as important as growing as a skateboarder. Whether on a skateboard or in everyday life, our hope is that these lessons continue long after camp ends.

The One Love Skate Four Wheels provide the foundation for our camps, lessons, and community skate sessions.

We're also grateful to PYCC for generously loaning skateboards so more kids could experience camp. Partnerships like these create opportunities for more families to get involved.

Finally, thank you to every family, volunteer, supporter, and prayer partner who helped make these two weeks such a success. Your encouragement and generosity allow us to continue creating spaces where kids can build confidence, grow in character, and experience the love of Christ through skateboarding.

We can't wait to keep rolling with this community. We hope to see many of these campers—and plenty of new faces too—at our next FREE Community Skate Event on September 26 at Pukalani Skatepark.
