If you have ever stood on top of a huge ramp or paddled in to a huge wave and chose to “drop in,” you know that transitions can sometimes be fun and sometimes be painful...
Recently, a friend of ours, Joshua Knipple, asked us to write about "Fear And Faith" for his new book. This process was great for us as we continue to work on our #LiveOneLove book. We came up with this Fear & Faith by Joshua and Nicole Marburger.pdf which we are also posting on this blog. Joshua Marburger is a Pastor in Hawaii and Founder of the international discipleship ministry “One Love Skate” 501c3. He and his wife, Nicole, have been enjoying the ride together since meeting at North Greenville University in 2007 where they were first resourced and equipped to be “shoulder to shoulder with soldiers for the Kingdom.” They now have three boys and enjoy serving, speaking, and writing to help many experience the One Love of Jesus (1L). They work hard to provide resources to help as many people as possible #LiveOneLove as a positive presence in their communities through Life Groups and Discipleship.
Joshua & Nicole’s prayer and passion in life is to help resource and equip
disciples (1L Reps) to lead life groups at every skatepark in the world.
"Where there was death, You brought life, Lord. Where there was fear, You brought courage.
When I was afraid, You were with me..." -God With Us, by Jesus Culture
I asked my good friend, Josh Knipple, to write a guest blog for us. Josh made our original 1L skate decks seen in this video Nicole made years ago. Later he helped make close to 40 1L decks that we have been able to give away all around the world.
He also brought a team from Pennsylvania & partnered with us for #OneLoveSkate at Hope Chapel Maui with Francis Chan in June 2013.
We trust that as you read this blog from Josh Knipple, you will be encouraged to #LiveOneLove with a fresh perspective and imagine creative ways to be a positive presence in your community.
Enjoy. -Joshua Marburger
If you had told me all the different ways God was going to do ten years ago I wouldn't have believed you and that you were making it all up. If you had told me I would get to travel the entire country, or have the only indoor skatepark within two hours given to us by an athiest I would have laughed at you. If you had said that we would be able to reach thousands with the name of Christ, no way. But that is how God works and does things and for some reason he chose to use my life as part of it. John 10:10 says, "I have come that you might have life, life to the full."
So I want to share with you the history of Life Over Death skatepark and Crucified Ministries, and when I say the history of it I actually mean His story because that is what it is. It was the summer of 2006, I had just finished at Liberty University with a degree in youth ministry. I had an internship at a local church, I was engaged and I thought everything in my life was falling into place according to the American dream. Then within a 2 week span, everything collapsed. My fiancee and I decided it was not the right decision for us to be making and the church decided to hire someone else one day after telling me the job was mine. So I went through a time of complete questioning everything. "God, Why?" Also during that time I went back to working at the job i had always known at the local snowboard shop. Here I am questioning everything and seeing kids come into the shop day after day. Not to long after that God started working on my heart saying. "this is exactly why you didn't get that job at the church. I didn't create you for safe ministry inside church walls, I created you for outreach. These kids right in front of you who aren't in church anywhere."
I had no clue what that would look like but I knew God was calling. I tried every excuse I could come up with, "God, I am not a good speaker, God, I can't skate, God, you must have the wrong person." He just kept saying, "Josh, I thought you said you were willing." So that following Tuesday I started going to the local outdoor park with hot dogs, water, and a few others to help me. I had no clue what was in store. To be honest, the first few weeks were rough, most the guys there tried to get us kicked out. Yet God kept saying to press on. In that first summer we went from 5 kids to over 20 kids. Skateparks around here shutdown in August, so we started praying or a place. Within 2 weeks a friend of mine called saying, "my dad heard you were getting kids off the streets and he has a warehouse that you can use if you want." I was blown away, God was coming through in ways I couldn't have imagined but the building is only the tip of the iceberg. As we went to see the building we pulled into the lot of a casket warehouse company, kinda creepy. We went around the back of the building to find out the warehouse we would be using was the second story and he would be selling coffins on the first floor. Oh, and by the way he went on to tell us he is an atheist. All I could do was laugh at God's sense of humor in that moment. So as we talked we decided we wanted to call the park "Life Over Death." The idea was that we would be sharing life through Christ on the second story as he would be selling death on the first.
Out of me seeing my dreams and plans die, God showed me what abundant life could look like. I was broken going back to my old job, and God was saying this is only the beginning. I was at a hopeless spot in my life crying out "Why" and God was saying Trust Me and you will bring hope to others.
Every Tuesday night for over ten years the skatepark grew and multiplied, hot dogs got consumed, ramps got built as funding came in, and Christ was shared. Out of the skatepark, other ministries have been started, a traveling skate team was formed that went all over the country ministering to thousands along the way. Also out of the skatepark a church was born transforming the city of Johnstown and reaching the homeless and outcasts. Out of death, came life. Life Over Death's History is truly HIS STORY.
P.S. Those same guys who originally tried to kill the ministry at the start are now all believers leading a local snowboard ministry themselves.

Yesterday, Waipuna Chapel graciously welcomed our Marburger family! What a blessing to be prayed for in all three services last weekend! Joshua is the new "Associate Pastor of Life Groups & Discipleship," and we will also continue to serve full time as missionaries through "One Love Skate" 501(c)(3).
Let's join with Waipuna Chapel in prayer for housing Upcountry by the end of September. We are praying we can purchase a house close to the church and big enough for our family of 5. We also pray our house will be able to host missionaries and people in our monthly support team who come to visit and join us in ministry.

As Joshua and Nicole (and all of us) transition, we rest knowing: "What is over our heads is under God's feet." As Isaiah 55 explains, God's ways truly are higher than our ways.
Last Sunday was "Experience 1L Day" at Hope Community Church, and Joshua shared that he recently accepted a position as Associate Pastor at Waipuna Chapel back in Maui, Hawaii.
Please pray for grace for the Marburger move:
- Family transition to Maui
- Nicole's new missionary roles with One Love Skate (501c3): Communicating, Connecting, & Creating
- Ministry of Waipuna Chapel - Great relationships with staff, lots of spiritual fruit through life groups / Waipuna's services, plus revival on Maui as Joshua serves as Associate Pastor of Life Groups and Discipleship
- Marburgers continue full-time work with One Love Skate, and Joshua's yearly month of unpaid leave (plus additional vacation time) from Waipuna to pursue 1L ministry opps
- 1L Reps to be Discipled, Resourced, & Equipped at all 5 skateparks in Maui this year as we partner with people, churches, and organizations
About 11 Minutes in to last Sunday's message, Dr. Wilbanks, from North Greenville University, shares about "El Elyon" and mentions the One Love #SeekTheMostHigh Devotional from Hope Community Church.

1L Oregon was an incredible time from July 26-31, and it included giving away 5 #OneLoveSkate decks. We also gave away 50+ One Love Devotional & Discipleship guides as well as 5 t-shirts and hundreds of conversation stickers. Joshua & Nicole shared about One Love during Ashland Christian Fellowship's service, and video is available on this blog.

July 2017 Summer Update from Sam:
Thank you all for the hospitality in North Carolina. It was so exciting to meet and live life with the Shelby Crew at Hope Community Church and Putnam Baptist. It was really refreshing to see the unity of God’s people come together to represent Him in the community and in their daily lives.
There seems to be a generation of passionate creative communicators for the Kingdom of God being raised up in that community. I love the willingness of the church members to serve whole heartedly for the purpose of spreading the good news and seeing transformation happen through the power of God.
I love the leadership team in the different churches I was meeting, seeing their commitment to God and the the community God has placed them in really showed their daily lives that overflowed into all those that surrounded them.
I also enjoyed seeing the youth group at Hope worshiping God with all their heart in the different activities they were a part of. They are paving the way for a refreshing exciting season.
I was so thankful for the different people I got to meet like Chandler, Skip, Kenny, Neil, Mark, Brodie, the One Love Skate Crew, Maddy, aunty Heidi, Rev, Blazer Skate Shop, Brian, Chick-fil-A.. :) You guys are awesome thanks Josh for making this trip happen!
At the start of next week I will be doing a missions trip to Honduras in Central America. This will be my second time going there and I am excited to see what will happen on this next adventure with God. Last year I was able to go into 3 public schools and share with over 500+ youth. We hosted a conference at our home church in TGU, prayed for healing in the hospitals, did some evangelism at the malls and university, and also got to help equip and empower the local leadership team our church is connected with their in Honduras.
Please pray for me as I go into yet another trip of proclaiming the good news of the gospel and the one love of God in the Nations. Here are some photos from the last trip:
"But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us." -Romans 8:37

"I have been doing skate boarding ministry for the past 10 years of my life. It has been a childhood dream to lead skate teams across the world to share my passion of adventure, overcoming, and fun through skateboarding. I went to North Carolina for a little over a week and got to dive deep into the community of Shelby to connect with our One Love Skate team. Josh the founder of One Love Skate set up opportunities for me to share to churches, skate chapels, and weekly outreach events to the neighborhoods.
#Repost @therealsamperalta So good Sam & Auburn! @auburnfloresphotography. Y'all are missed in NC, but #stoked you made your time here count so much for eternity! ・・・ Shared at Hope Community Church in Shelby ⛪️ this morning in two services giving the @oneloveskateoutreach missions report 🌎🌍🌏 #OneLoveSkate #LiveOneLove #OneLoveToTheNations
I got to speak to pastors, youth leaders, and coordinators that have been investing into the community and they were able to give me opportunities to share from my heart to their congregations, youth groups, and staff members.
A few days in Auburn flew in and met Josh and I to create some cool videos for the website, share about past one love skate outreaches, and most of all play video games with us. It was such a huge blessing to catch up with AJ (a past New Hope Maui intern) and reunite and share life together.
It seemed like every corner there was opportunities to share a message to individuals about trusting in God and take the challenges to grow in faith.
For me I was humbled to spend some time to pray with one of the lead church planters of that area. I was able to share a word I felt that God wanted to say to him and as I was done praying he said it was like “hitting the nail with the hammer” in confirmations. We got to talk about prophetic words and prayers and at the end of the conversation I felt affirmed that God’s spirt is alive and active and no matter who you are talking to we are all children of God.
Josh and I had a very full week spending time with the skaters of Shelby and I felt like God planted many seeds/ ideas of hope, kindness, and vision to be more in God. We went to 5 skate parks, had over 20+ skaters, and preached at three skate parks including the weekly Skate Outreach at the basketball courts on Wednesday afternoons.

Thank you all for reading my quick update. There has been so many stories, experiences, and revelations everyday and I pray that you will continue to receive and activate all the treasures and gifts Father God has given and hidden for you to discover and use for His glory!"
Note: Please continue to lift up Sam as he considers some opportunities for International Missions in the immediate future.
Let's pray for "wisdom to know what is right and courage to do it" for Sam and for all of us as the Most High opens opportunities for us to live #OnMission all around the world!
Please consider making a tax-deductible contribution to One Love Skate to help us continue this important mission in NC, HI, and around the world!
Josh & Nicole here, and we are so thankful to be #ShoulderToShoulder with people repping the 1L all around the world!
From surprise skateboard ramps sitting in storage at our new church building to lives being transformed on the pavement during #OneLoveSkate in NC; recently, we are amazed to see that that #MostHigh has better plans than we do. His calling to be full-time missionaries through One Love Skate 501(c)(3) and "hitch our wagon" to Hope Community Church has proven to be the most effective way to share the One Love of Jesus in this season of our lives.
Week after week we have seen God's favor and hand of provision as He daily provides what we need to do the work He has called us to do! While we continue to serve as One Love Missionaries and cultivate the tool of "One Love Skate" to reach skaters with the One Love of Jesus, we are especially thankful for those of you who join us in our mission through giving your time, prayers, and money to make the ministry of One Love happen!
In the 1L of Jesus (1 John 4:9),
Josh, Nicole, Caleb, Paul, & Silas
We believe asking the question: "What's One Love?" can be the difference between life and death because of the answer found in the question. Caleb, currently 5 years old, helps us understand One Love in this 19 second video from last Saturday:
Here's a video from Facebook live of the One Love Mission's Report at Pukalani Baptist last Sunday night (3/26/17) with more details of how God is using One Love to help people encounter the One Love of Jesus.
Peter has helped One Love Skate partner with the ministries of Made In Hope, Ambassador, Embassy, & #StirItUp808. Sam is especially excited about the possibility of a One Love Skate & Surf school partnership with Made in Hope! For now, stop in at 752 Lower Main Street in Wailuku, grab some delicious bubble tea, and check out some new 1L products.
Pastor Kaipo, Waipuna Chapel, asked Nicole and me to teach on 1 Thessalonians 3 last Monday for Unashamed. We are so thankful to be #ShoulderToShoulder, #Unashamed with many ministers and ministries on Maui & around the world!
This trip to Maui went too fast. We had great time with Maui family, and we are so thankful to have spent some time with amazing ministry partners and monthly supporters!
Sharing at Lahaina Baptist Church on March 19 was especially revitalizing to us because Pastor Jay teaches the members of LBC to be missionaries #OnMission to their community! Furthermore, Caleb & Elijah and the leadership team at Lahaina Baptist share the One Love of Jesus at Lahaina Skatepark (which is a short walk across the street) several times a month.
We are so thankful for each of you who partner with us to #LiveOneLove! We have seen God provide in miraculous ways through your obedience to Him in your generosity to give to One Love Skate!
This ministry could not happen without the consistent investment of your prayers and finances!
